thjnk has a bang-up time with the “Quizduell”.

On 2 February, Germany’s ARD network launched the “Quizduell” TV show, which airs in the early evening and is hosted by Jörg Pilawa. The show first ran last year but was beset by technical glitches. However, the host handled them with an excellent sense of humour and now self-mockingly assures audiences that things will work this time with the app.

The thjnk agency group’s Hamburg branch seized on this promise and developed an entertaining campaign under the banner “Glitch-free at last”, in which thjnk joined with director Milo to produce a TV commercial that was a real bang-up time.

In the 30- and 25-second TV commercials, it is the host himself who makes a clumsy move and triggers a chain reaction with dire consequences. Exploding spotlights, collapsing rigging and a chaotic studio fire brigade – nothing is spared to make the host lose his nerve. In the end, the only thing he can do is reassure the audience that at least the show’s app works.

“Even just filming the commercial was great fun for everyone involved. And it shows in the results. For us, this humorous campaign was the perfect kick-off to the new shows,” said Dietmar Pretzsch, Head of Marketing at ARD.
In addition to the television commercial, the campaign will also run on the radio, in print and out-of-home advertisements as well as with ambient and online measures. The ARD channel’s ability to handle the previous year’s series of mishaps with aplomb is also clear in the print motif, in which Jörg Pilawa poses in front of a broken “Quizduell” sign.
